AboutIrene Liu is a seasoned C-level business executive who is passionate about building technology companies for scale. In addition to legal and compliance functions, she has managed finance, customer education, trust & safety, and policy teams at Checkr and Hopin. She also drove M&A deals, financings, and investments to successfully help companies build and scale to achieve multi-billion dollar valuations.
She has also had repeat success as a regulatory and policy advisor to companies, given her background as a trial attorney at both the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. She has provided key guidance to organizations on AI and its changing regulatory dynamics and advised the FTC on AI, the State of California on their Generative AI Executive Order, and the California Senate on proposed AI regulations. Her ability to understand the perspectives of both the government and tech companies makes her a powerful executive, board member, and risk advisor, particularly on issues of privacy, security, and compliance in highly regulated industries. Now that she has operated and scaled multiple technology companies, she wants to help spur growth at other companies as an advisor, coach and board member. She truly enjoys advising executive teams and boards on opportunities and risks that come with growth and a rapidly changing regulatory environment. Her operating experience coupled with her pragmatism will be beneficial for technology companies seeking to propel their businesses forward at a rapid pace. She attended University of California-Berkeley, School of Law, and Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She currently serves as an Executive-in-Residence at Berkeley Law and an advisor to their AI Institute. She is an advisor to Women Defining AI and a board member of the UC Berkeley Center for Law and Business, which draws from the best scholars and practitioners on capital markets, corporate innovation, and sustainability. She has been awarded General Counsel of the Year by Corporate Counsel, Top 50 Women Lawyer at the National Diversity and Leadership Conference, and In-house Leader by L.A. Times. Irene enjoys traveling and running. She has run 10+ half marathons, 3 marathons, and a 200-mile relay. |
